i have lost everthing on my screen HELP

i have lost start menu icons everthing, only basis screen saver from windows
left i eas able to get onto this via task menu ctrl, alt, delete to get a box
up, what can i do cannot get into programs, all that my partner did was close
the pc as windows/avg said needed to update then it would not come back on. i
do have spy doc on there but cannot get into run it in case this may
help!!!!! what do i do everthings on it!!!! widows xp tried the window icon
on, cannot look on email either???

Can you restore the PC to anearlier date?
Try to log into safe mode and try the Restore procedure.
Press Windows Key on your Keyboard then the start Menu will come up
Click Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .
Click on Advanced Tab and then click Reset Web Settings Button ( Note if you
have IE6 it will be under Programs Tab).
Make sure the machine malware free and Virus free by scanning.

1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next
post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.
How to manage Add-Ons:

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck
this box:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) and click Apply
then OK to close your IE Properties.

i have done what you said the pc is scanning via onecare live at 30%, before
this was scanned exactly the same no icons, i will want to c if they come
back after the scan, i did a scan with spy doctor it found adware.agent.ZO.
and deleted it.

I have the same problem and nothing I have tried is work to et it back. I
post a similar posting under the windows media center edition section. -- I
hope some help comes one of our ways.

mines windows media edition to. did it go after a windows update, thas when
mine went

I did scans with McAfee even at the DOS level. Mine occurred as the result
of a virus, and the system now can't find explorer.exe which may be the root
of the whole problem. I have even tried the sfc \scannow from the DOS prompt
in safe mode but just get an error with that. Hope your scans work.

hi just done another system restore to a another date all working ok, hope
yours works out.

hijackhtjis have sent you the log, the comodo clean should i download and
