I get a program error when I download an excel template

I have excel 2000. When I try to dl a template, excel crashes i.e. the
standard program error "a log will be created". Of course I can't understand
the log.

Hi
does this crash happen while downloading in Internet Explorer or which
program does raise this error?

I click the download button on ie then after a few seconds excel starts.
About 3 seconds after the excel screen appears, I get the program error sign.

Hi
try downloading the file first directly to your harddisk and open it
from there and see if this works

There's a way to do that from the Template Gallery?

WOW Cool Frank, How do you download directly? Please be specific if possible,
I know just enough about computers to be dangerous:)

Thanks

The only thing I see is "Download Now". I could not find the File Template
Icon. What does it look like? Where is it. I'm trying to DL the Simple
Flowchart. To get there, I searched for flow chart. It was the first choice.
I clicked in that and I get a sample picture right below the download now
button, no icon could be found. Is it on a different page?

Hi
right-click on this link/symbol

Have you actually tried this? I'm with Bill. I see no way to download a
template, only picture of preview or .htm of the page :(

Hi
I went to
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/default.aspx

e.g. chose the following category
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/CT062100861033.aspx (2004
calendars)

I then chose an Excel download file and after clicking on download two
things can happen 8depending on your settings)
- a download dialog opens and you can chose the target directory
- or probably in your case: Excel opens directly with this new
template.

For the second one then just goto 'File - saveas' in excel to save the
file on your harddisk

Sorry Frank, What settings are you refering to....I 'm really not that
knowledgable about computers...I need to know exactly what I am to do. I got
no "save target as" anywhere when I looked into the calendars and excel
burped agsain when I tried to dl it. Also where would I store this template.
Is there something written about this somewhere. I gather I'm not the only
one with this problem?

Thanks

This is what I would prefer.

This happens and I can perform 'File|Save As'
Could you please elaborate on 'depending on your settings'? What settings?

In win98, I can do this:

Open Windows Explorer
Tools|Folder Options|File Types Tab

Scroll down to Microsoft Excel Worksheet, select it and
click the Edit button.
On the next dialog window, there's an option to "confirm open after download"

With this checked, I get prompted to save or open (I like this choice).

And while you're there, you may want to turn off: Browse in Same Window.

This'll stop excel workbooks from opening in MS Internet Explorer.

Thanks, Dave. In XP, those choices are shown when clicking 'Advanced'.
Unfortunately all the XL types already have "confirm ....' checked, and all
but .XLS don't have "Browse ...." available (greyed out). I like to be
prompted, too, and I am if retrieving a file from any source other than MS
Office Templates area :-(

You're buried pretty deep in this thread.

If you don't get a working answer, you may want to ask the same question in a
Windows newsgroup.

I'm having this same problem on Excel 2000 SP3 in Win2000. Unfortunately,
Excel is crashing before I can do a file-saveas. Any suggestions?

Has there been any resolution on this issue? I'm having the same problem but
none of these suggestions have worked.
