The guest user has been disabled on ALL XP machines and if I recall
correctly ALL 2k machines. In order to have the file sharing work you will
need to set up a user account. On my home network all of the resident
machines can access the server shares only with their machine logons. I have
the same logon information on the server and once the client logs onto their
laptop or desktop then they have access to what I have given their account
on the server.
What I do is:
1) create a user group for my family
2)create accounts for all of the family members
3)add the accounts to the group.
The group is not really needed but it makes management of the accounts
easier, I also create 2 accounts for myself one admin level, and one power
user then do all my non admin work from the power user account, this limits
the damage that a malicious process that might slip by my scanners and
firewall can do.

BTW you neglected to tell us the opperating system that you are using and
how you have the network set up(xover cable[rare but has been used], switch,
router, peer to peer[usually only with win9.x] or server based(domain or
workgroup)). It would help greatly if you could supply this information.

You can't remove the guest account.
Perhaps you would like classic authentication over guest authentication.
