I don't want any message selected...

I just started using Outlook 2003. One thing I can't figure out how to do
is to set it up so it doesn't automatically open an email when going to my
Inbox (or any other folder).

With OExpress6, I can open my Inbox without the program selecting an email
automatically. The preview pane at the bottom would remain blank until I
select a message/email. I can't seem to make Outlook 2003 behave this way.
It always selects an email.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Marvin

Turn off the preview pane. Outlook is a different program with different
audiences so items that work just fine in OE (simple mail/news program) are
not needed/wanted/desired in Outlook.

If it weren't for the convenience of having a Junk Filter with Outlook 03, I
would've probably switched back to OE6.

Microsoft should've included all the options/features found on OExpress and
should've given the user the choice of disabling it. There are already 3
things that I'm quite annoyed with Outlook, (1)the subject mentioned in this
thread, (2)the newsgroup integration (or lack of it) and (3)not being able
make subfolders within a folder found in your Favorite Folders. This seems
like little complaints but I was assuming a smoother transition.

The real problem, if you ask me, is that MS for some reason decided to
rename the old "Internet Mail & News" product, "Outlook Express". It is an
*entirely* different program, written by different development groups. The
similarity in name causes a lot of confusion. You can't expect the programs
to behave the same. Outlook does things OE doesn't, and vice versa. That's
just how it is. If all you want is Internet mail/news, stick with OE....you
can use a junk mail filter (third party product) with it if you wish.
