I do not want the message to be marked read unless i decide it

When I scroll through my e-mails, they appear opened automabically as I go
down. I want to keep them as unread until I decide otherwise.. Thank you

You don't mention which version of Outlook you use, so instructions are
approximate:

Tools > Options > Other > Preview Pane

Uncheck the box that says "Mark item as read when selection changes."
