I can't get Outlook to archive

I was archiving to an external drive for quite a while with no issues.

I recently reloaded XP Pro and Outlook 2003 and now can't get the archive
process to work. Archive will create a new folder in the archive file but not
move anything to it or an existing folder. I've tried using autoarchive
settings and manually, neither works. I can view and access items that were
already archived in any of several archive files.

Ideas?

It depends how you recovered your mail data, as archive works on the
modified date, not mail send/receive date.
