I cannot uncheck the empty deleted items upon exiting, it is gray

I need to uncheck the box for the empty deleted items folder upon exiting
under my options menu but I can't because it is grayed out. Is there a way I
can get that box not to be grayed out so I can uncheck it?

Do you have administrative access on the PC? Are you in an Exchange
environment? Is this a work PC with perhaps a policy applied to it?
