I can only view text in the design window...what did I do?

I was updating a powerpoint show and I was looking for a way to ensure my
slides didn't fit to the screen and lose their shape - which they are doing
in the slide show. Somehow I clicked on something that is greying/blacking
out my design window except for the text and I don't know how to get the
design view back. I can still see the slide sorter view and the slide show -
just not the design window. Help - This is not my normal software program and
I need this by Thursday.... and BTW, how do I ensure my slides stay in
proper proportion?

Hi

For the blank design window see if this helps:

For the slides staying in proper proportion, could you explain a little more
what you mean? Do they appear fine in design mode and then stretch in slide
show mode? Or were they 4:3 and you changed the page set up to 16:9 and now
they are stretched? Or something else? Remember we can't see your screen
:).

And what version are you using?

Thank you for answering. I wound up asking for a reset to defaults - lost all
my changes, which I thought I had saved - since I had checked out without
saves after messing up the view and it came back open just as messed up.
Apparently not...or I have a spook file in the wrong folder. I got the
correct window view back, but I will read the link you sent. While I like
the program, I'm afraid I only use Power Point when I have to make a
presentation and having made just 5 with Power Point in 18 years, it's a
learning experience every time. The first time I made this program, I put it
to music. Somewhere along the line the music stopped playing, although I keep
the music with the ppt file when ever I save it. Not a major problem and I
can work with it later, seeing a number of FAQ relating to same.
I use PPT3 and tried updating it yesterday. It told me I couldn't do so as
something was missing, but it did take a minute to update when I opened the
file this am. I work on a military computer and downloading is always a
problem. The disk isn't kept here and there is a problem with my Outlook also
that needs a reload...but they can't find the disk :)
The problem with resizing was that the slide show was stretching to fit my
computer screen and I have an extra wide computer monitor. I don't want it to
stretch, but to stay in the correct proportions. It is now, after the reset
defaults showing correctly, but it would be nice to know how I specifiy that
it maintain proportions or how I buggered it up.
