I added a 512 MB DDR chip to my motherboard, already have one in there (my
board can handle 1 gb of RAM), but when i boot, it keeps saying
"c:\windows\system32\pci.sys is missing or corrupt". when i take the second
chip out, my system boots fine. any solutions?

Have you tried the new RAM stick by itself? What happens when you do?

Is it registered memory?
Did you purchase SDRAM or DDRAM?
Are the memory chips on the module stacked? not all MoBo
support stacked modules.

Does BIOS recognize the memory?

Try the new chip by itself. If that does not work, return it. If it does
work, check whether it is the same type/speed memory as the older chip.
Some PCs can be touchy about mis-matched memory chipc. In theory, the
computer should dumb-down to the slower of the two chips, but do not bet on
it. As for "type", are they both DDR? Mixing types is not a good idea.

Greetings --

You probably have defective or incompatible RAM modules.

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for new RAM
configurations. Consult your motherboard's manual or the
manufacturer's web site for specific instructions and compatibility
requirements.
