In a nutshell, Windows 2000 will run on hyperthreading CPU's. It is not
"optimized" to take advantage of it but sees it as 2 processors. In
"some" instances disabling hyperthreading may improve proformance. If
you want more info, there is a fair amount out there (www.google.com)

Your answer regarding hyperthreading and Windows 2000
brings up a question I have been trying to find the answer
to for a few weeks now.
With Hyperthreading turned on in my bios, I have tried
both ntoskrnl.dll 's (uni and dual processor versions) in
order to determine which one would offer me the best
performance. My Windows 2000 Advanced Server installation
boots and runs with either one, and I have been unable to
note any major differences in performance. Without a good
knowledge of the hyperthreading technology, I am not sure
how to decide whether to:
a). Turn off hyperthreading and use the uniprocessor
ntoskrnl.dll
b). Turn on hyperthreading and use the dual processor
ntoskrnl.dll
c). Turn on hyperthreading and use the uniprocessor
ntoskrnl.dll

Addl info: I have used a variety of methods to change the
ntoskrnl.dll
1). the device manager to switch from uni to dual
processor pc
2). manually changed the the dll after booting with a
utility.
Either way I do not note a difference in performance, but
I would like to optimize this installation in order to
prevent any potential future BSOD issues that may arise.
Thanks,
