Hyperterminal

Hello, I do technical support for a national ISP. I have a
question that I want to throw out at everyone.

how can someone install Hyperterminal on a Windows XP Pro
computer? I know that the 16 or 17 installs I've done all
have it installed by default, but I just had one of our
customers that doesn't have it. Can't even get to it
through the run prompt via "hypertrm.exe". I know that in
previous windows versions it was a check mark located in
add/remove programs under communications, but that isn't
valid in XP.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Why not go get the free, newer version at Hilgraeve

http://www.hilgraeve.com/

It's better than the one included in XP anyway.

I agree with you, however the joker that I'm dealing with
forgot the password to his Cisco router. He has no access
to the internet right now and the only way to get into his
router is through Hyperterminal. Thanks for the link
though.

There are two ways to do this. First, you can walk 'em through replacing
"hide" in sysoc.inf located in \windows\inf with just a "," But, that'd be
too much fun on the phone =)

The other way is to open the \Windows\Inf folder, right-click Communic.inf
and select Install.

Good Luck,

Tim
