Hyperlinks in RECEIVED emails

Outlook XP/2002 has no problem formatting URLs and email
addresses as hyperlinks in outgoing messages, but I can't
figure out how to get it to hyperlink URLs and email
addresses in messages that I receive.

It's a pain to have to copy and paste when the program
obviously knows how to recognize linkable text.

Is there any way to get Outlook XP/2002 to hyperlink
these things in incoming messages?

Thanks.

are the messages HTML? they should be recognized in plain text messages but
html format, especially when word is the editor, needs linked by the sender.
This happens if the sender presses space or return after entering the url,
but if they move the cursor with the mouse, the link is not created.
