hyperlinks fail

I have a table of contents and have hyperlinked the text to different slides
within the same presentation. The hyperlinks work when I preview the
slideshow, but are not present when packaged and copied to a disk. I also
have hyperlinks to webpages that are still there when copied to disk - only
the hyperlinks to internal slides are failing.
I have named all slides - no commas or numerical characters.
I have tried all the viewing options (kiosk, presenter.....)
What now?

the problem is probably with all the hyperlinks to the website. If I split
it into sevaral slideshows, will I be able to package them to cd so they show
as one presentatation?

In addition to the issue with "lots of links" when the file gets converted
back to 2003 format, there is also an issue with grouped objects.

Here's the facts :)

1. You cannot add hyperlinks to grouped objects (in either 2007 or 2003).

2. If you create a shape in PPT 2007 and add, say, a bevel effect, then type
text in it, it is just a rectangle in PPT 2007; you can add a link to this,
no problem.

3. When that file is converted to 2003, that shape becomes a group -- it's
an image of a beveled rectangle with a textbox centered on top; these two
objects are grouped.

4. Any links you've applied to that shape in 2007 become ... well, they are
gone in 2003 because now the shape isn't just a shape, it's grouped objects.

I haven't talked to them about it, but I'm sure the developers were opting
to let users edit text as much as possible, so they create this group of
shapes in the 2003 version of the file. It's a great thing -- except when
you're trying to create "buttons" in 2007!

Anyway, I just wanted to mention this as a possible cause. Can you tell it's
caught me flat-footed before?

Oh, maybe. I believe I also had a shadow on the text, and maybe on the shape
itself, too. That might be the difference.

Unless you use the 'archive' option, then it doesn't include the viewer and
doesn't convert to 97-2003. Not including the viewer may not be an option
for the OP, but just thought I would mention it for completeness :)

We really need an FAQ about this (how 2007 saves as 97-2003 format when you
package for CD and how you can bypass that by using the "archive" option).
Do we have one already?

Perhaps we should do one about the PowerPoint 2007 viewer/package for CD in
general? The whole down-saving thing causes all sorts of issues... And it is
probably about my turn to contribute :)

woohoo, kewl!

I haven't been able to repro my "buttons" issue. Weird. I *know* it
happened, because 1) it took me a little while to figure out what was
happening, and 2) I had to save them all as pictures so they'd hold up in
2003. But I can't make it happen now, of course.

Go figure.
