I have recently been asked by our Head of Geography to see if I can solve a
problem they are having with hyperlinks to a PowerPoint 2007 file.
They have bought some resources which are swf files encapsulated within a
powerpoint presentation. The swf includes animations with buttons.
To enable the students to get some understanding of the animation they have
linked the .ppt to a Word document. The students read the background
information and then click on the hyperlink to see the .ppt. This works OK in
2003.
With 2007 there is more security. Viewing the .ppt in PowerPoint the user is
asked to enable macro/activeX and this takes them to the animation. I have
been able to remove the security warning by adding the file path to the
trusted locations so everything works as before.
The problem occurs when I try to create a link from a word document.
Clicking on the link gives a warning about the dangers of hyperlinks and then
opens the .ppt file. However the buttons within the animation do not work and
I only get a loading screen. This happens whether or not the file path is
added to the trusted locations.
There is no option to enable macro/activeX.
I am guessing that the hyperlink somehow bypasses the security option in
PowerPoint so it is not possible to enable the macro/activeX.
Has anyone encountered something like this before.
Is there a solution?
Any suggestions will be considered as I am getting nowhere on this.
