hyperlink email address opens 48 IE windows

my wife's computer has Office 2007 and XP. She recently clicked on a
hyperlink email address and 48 IE windows open up. it takes about 6 minutes.
the first time it happened I closed the group. the second time it happened I
closed them one at a time to see what launched. in the URL bar it read
"mailto:[email protected]' Bob Smith is not the REAL email address - i made
that up to protect my wife's friend's email address, but it was a valid
email. i clicked on another email addres and it did the same thing. if you
click on a hyperlink for a website, it's OK. I didn't reset IE to defaults,
and everything looks OK in Outlook regarding her account. I ran virus
protection and ad-aware and found nothing.

This isn't critical, but it's a pain everytime she wants to create a new
email to someone.

Well folks,
I was able to read some other posts, and found that by resetting 'Web
Settings' in IE that my Outlook email hyperlinks are now working. Sorry for
the additional post, but anyone else searching for a similar answer: open IE,
Internet Tools, Options, Programs, select reset Web Settings and you should
be good!
