HP Scanners

I have two HP scanners (2100c and 3300c) and would like to use one of them.
When trying to install the 2100c drivers downloaded from HP's web site, I
received a message that these drivers may hurt the stability of my MS XP
operating system. Consequently, I did not completed the installation. Since
HP's these drivers are not signed by MS, is it safe to install these without
hurting my OS? Would appreciate any feed back on this.

A driver does not need to have Microsoft's blessing to be installed on
your computer. But it does have to have the driver writer's guarantee
that it works on Windows XP.

Modern scanners are cheap, having XP certified drivers. Try
the ones you have, if they don't work with the drivers HP
has, uninstall them and buy a new scanner.

Nicely stated .... and I can tell you from personal experience that the
HP driver for the 3300c will not work on XP no matter how much
you fiddle with Win95/98 compatibility modes. Sadly my 3300c is
relegated to boat anchor status.

Install only HP device driver and no PrecisionScan LT
as described here:

Try to use XP wizard for scanning ... but I
recommend VueScan:

BTW, it supports 2100c natively!

Maybe also this helps:

Thanks to all who provided feedback. I have decided to buy a new scanner
instead of messing around with old scanners and drivers. It isn't worth time
and effort trying to get things to work after what I have read. Again,
thanks for your input.

Good decision, the new scanners are faster and have better
resolution.
