Hi! Got a problem! At the end of each sheet of printing the carriage moves
to the left side and rocks back and forth with a wild clicking noise. It
doesn't go anywhere.... then both the 'check paper' and 'check cartridge'
lights come on. The paper has to be pulled out the last 5mm or so.

Resetting or powering-down allows another sheet to be printed (perfectly)
but then it stops 5mm from the end and everything happens again.

Tried re-seating the (genuine) cartridges, checked all through for paper
jams. Printer is new- only in use for 2 weeks.

Any clues please?

You left out quite a bit of information, like if the printer does this
when being used from both the front panel AND the computer - or which if
only one. Also what OS you're using if it only happens when driven by
the computer. And if it's done this from the start or worked OK for a
while first. Stuff like that.

However, my first reaction is to tell you to immediately take the
printer back where you bought it. What you've told us so far sounds like
something your warranty should cover. I really wouldn't try much of
anything before doing so, either. The more you try, the more you risk
doing something that makes it look like it is your fault.

Thanks TJ. It worked fine for 2 weeks. The fault occurs whenever it prints-
from the PC or the scanner. Looking deep into the works it seems to be the
rubber seals that come up under the cartridge- the nearest one seems to be
trying to knock the carriage off the rail!

More info:

It seems that the carriage simply won't settle in the park position on the
left side after printing. It shudders back and forth a few times and then
the check lights come on. The sheet that was printing, and is finished
perfectly, stays just gripped by the rollers. Disconnecting the power allows
another sheet to be printed, and so on.

I this case you definitely want to contact HP or your dealer for
warranty service. In the US you could call HP at 1-800-HPINVENt,
elsewhere see http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/wwcontact_us.html
