HP OfficeJet printing problems

I

Indi

I have an HP Officejet 7140xi and up until now have had no problems.
Recently the colour printing is very patchy - colours are not printing
as they should and solid blocks appear stripey. If I print a square of
any colour the colour misses part of the shape.

I have tried putting in a new cartridge and have cleaned around the
cartridge holder inside the printer all to no avail.

Any suggestions???

Thank you.

You can try to clean encoder strip (that is the plastic strip above the
carriage shaft, clean ih with alcohol) and you can clean and oil carriage
shaft.

hope this will help

You can try to clean encoder strip (that is the plastic strip above
the carriage shaft, clean ih with alcohol) and you can clean and oil
carriage shaft.

Never use alcohol or other solvents on the encoder strip. The encoder
strip has a set of printed stripes that can be damaged if aggressive
cleaning is performed. Oiling the carriage rod is also is not
recommended as it can cause dust and fibers to collect and cause
problems.

For the OP's issue the most likely cause is an interconnect issue with
the printheads. Try printing a self test report as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...me=bpu00734&product=91463&dlc=en&lang=en#N389.
If one or more of the printheads shows a problem you might try removing
the printheads and cleaning the contacts. There are instructions for
changing the printheads at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...lc=en&product=64986&lang=en&docname=c00064417
and a video of the process at
