HP Officejet d155 scanning over network - how?

D

Dave Phillips

Folks,

we have a HP Officejet d155xi all-in-one machine fitted with a
JetDirect 200m card available for printing on our IP network. This
works fine, but I'm wondering how can we scan from the machine to our
XP desktops. Is this possible, and if so, what software do I need to
install ? The HP website is confusing on this issue.

Hi Dave --

The HP D155 only supports 'pull' scanning over a network (i.e. pulling the
document from scanner). It doesn't support the 'push' scenario that you're
describing.

It was an excellent question ..... with a sketchy and incomplete
response that does not satisfy.

If pull scanning is available over a network ... then how so, and is
any special software or configuration necessary?

What is "pull" scanning as opposed to "push" scanning.

The original question in no way seemed to indicate that he was trying
to do one or the other.

A clearer answer from the "experts" would be nice.

You can't. Unless you have a networkable scanner (in which case you wouldn't
be asking the question as a home user wouldn't have one as they typically
cost several thousand pounds - or millions of yen, if you happen to be in
Japan).

So, to all intents and purposes, you cannot scan over a network. The nearest
you'll get is if you scan to a shared folder than can then be accessed from
the remote computer. This is what I do if I need to have an image on my
other system upstairs.
