hp 970cxi printer

Just purchased hp media center pc. trying to install
older printer HP deskjet 970cxi. Error message
says 'unable to find plug and play printer'. Checked
everything and cant determine problem

Ensure the LPT port is set to EPP in the BIOS....

Then right click on My Computer and select Properties. From the Hardware
tab, select Device Manager. Doubleclick on the Ports (Com and LPT)
entry.... then doubleclick on the entry for the LPT port..... and look in
the Port Settings tab...

Ensure there is a check mark in "Enable Legacy Plug and Play Detection".
