Plug & Play not recognizing printer

I have tried setting up a HP Officejet K60 printer (plug & play parallel
printer) on a computer that has windows XP with SP 2 for a neighbor.I have
worked on this for several hours at different times but to no avail. I have
tried everything that a HP tech told me to do via e-mail. Before when I would
try to set it up it would find the hardware, but now it is not even finding
the hardware. I have uninstalled several times, have used the Microsoft
Uninstall Utility, the HP uninstall utility and everything I can think of but
it still refuses to install. I have performed these steps by installing the
software with the printer disconnected, as per HP suggest, then shutting off,
plugging in the printer, and restarting the computer. I have ran out of
different things to try. My main concern now is why did plug & play quit
recognizing the new hardware. By the way, I am using the latest printer
software for the printer and the plug & play is supposed to work with this
parallel connection according to HP. Does anyone know of a way I can get the
computer plug and play to start the "found new hardware" again? I am not
getting any error messages now either. The printer is an "HP all in one".

Get the latest drivers for the multi-function printer from HP's web site.
Assure that it is the correct driver. There are different drivers for XP and
XP 64, for example.

Remove the present drivers using the uninstall utilities. Check this site
for some guidance.

I believe the plug-and-play facilities will become available when you have
succeffully removed the previous drivers. Just a reminder: Do not plug the
printer into the computer until you have finished installing its software or
until the instructions direct.

Consult the install instructions on the HP site.

I know you have tried this before. And possibly I am not suggesting anything
you have not tried. Have a walk around the block, a sip of some imbibulation
or other, if that be your wish, and try again. Let us know.

Thanks for the answer Tom. I am going back over & try to uninstall and
reinstall this printer driver again this coming Tuesday. If I can get it
setup I will advise. I am really getting disqusted with it, but I do not give
up easily. I am usng the HP printer driver you described. I think I have
about worn out the HP website in trying to get this thing installed. It could
just be some simple thing I am over looking. We'll give it another try.
Another thing I cannot figure out is that the original software has 149 MB
but the new one listed only has 37.8 if I remember correctly. However, this
is the one the HP tech told me to use.

I, along with the help of the HP techs, have finally got the software
installed to the HP Officejet K60 printer. Thanks for the help.
