HP 895Cxi minus color

My printer's been wonderful up until today...here's the story. I have
a Win2k box hooked up parallel to a HP Deskjet 895Cxi. I tried to
print a picture in Word XP out, and the color seemed off. I cleaned
the cartrige, put it back in, and started seeing lines. Re-seated it,
and it began to print out symbols. It wouldnt stop until I pressed the
page key, then the power. It stopped, and I tried to print again. No
color. I figured that the cartrige's probably dead, so I pulled out a
new one, opened it up, and switched them. It now refused to print
color at all. Check all my settings, swap the cartriges again, check
everything I can think of, and it still will not print color! I
reboot, delete and reinstall the printer, change drivers, recheck
everything, no go. I read a couple of posts that suggested that it was
the cartrige, but I put in a just-unsealed sealed cartrige...I bought
it about a year ago at most. What's goin' on? Is the page key then
power a secret combo to tell the printer to just print color?

Clean the contacts on the cartridge as shown at the following:
