HP 6300C Scanner

I recently Upgraded a customers computer and installed
Win XP Pro. They already had a HP Scanjet 6300C. This
device installs, but does not work correctly. I
downloaded software from HP, but it does not help. My
problem is that the scanner fails to initialize. Does
anyone know if this scanner has conflicts with either XP
Pro or USB 2.0? My biggest confusion with this was that
the scanner was working properly with XP home. Doesn't
make sense. Thanks for any help you can give

Fully remove and disconnect the scanner. Use device manager
to remove the scanner. Remove the USB port/hub with device
manager. Reboot

Install the HP XP drivers software. Don't connect the
scanner until prompted by the software installation.
Reboot.
