HP 2175v PSC scanner not working

I have a HP 2175v PSC that is making a clicking noise when I turn it on or when I restart my computer. I am running Windows XP and have never had a problem with it before. I have figured out that it is the scanner but am not sure how to fix it. It doesn't give an error message at all. Except one time and that is how I knew that it was the scanner. Please help!!!
