I have just had to reinstall XP and had to create new user accounts, my
question is how do you use the old accounts that were on there in the first
place.

Umm... a "reinstall" starts everything fresh.

As in, those accounts no longer exist.

I reinstall XP only,

The old accounts are still on the hard drive. How do you get these back.

The accounts are not on the hard drive, but their profile folders may be.
If you reinstalled XP then you have a new user database containing only the
user accounts you've set up since reinstalling.

Try to browse those other folders in C:\Documents and Settings. In
particular look at the Desktop folders (that's where you'll find the stuff
that was on the user's Desktop), the My Documents folder, and the Favorites.
What in particular are you looking for with those old accounts?
