2 hdrives, both formated ntfs, xp on the c, nothing on the e. Just an
adventure, but want to ef around with linux red, suse? whatever. The main
idea is to dual boot from 2 drives, since xp is a restore cd, no way to
partition that i know of or pulling out 1 controller to let the other drive
boot? make sense? Thanks in advance and I will buy a book tomorrow with
linux. What version "doesnt relly matter" is the one to get for an absolute
newby??????

What are you really asking here? How to dual boot or which distro to get
or both?

To answer the first part of the question, use Google. Put in the search
term, "dual boot Linux Windows" and you'll get about 756,000 links.
That should get you started.

As for the second part of the question, here's a good place to start:

http://distrowatch.com/

And then come post your questions in one of the Linux newsgroups.
Although here's a friendly warning - based on your posting style here
in the Windows newsgroup, you should lurk quite a bit first before you
post and then consider being a lot nicer. It is a much tougher
environment there than it is here.

Hi,

Recommend that you try Mandrake, as that is probably the easiest one for a
newbie to learn. Linux's setup will create the needed free space and ext
partitions, just boot from the CD. You will need to use LILO or GRUB for the
boot manager unless you already possess another one, WinXP's boot manager
cannot boot a Linux installation.

With only restore disks, it is very important for you to image your current
XP partition. I can guarantee you will mess up your current XP configuration
and need to restore.
The current Linux distros are pretty easy to setup and there is a learning
curve with all distros.
I would also suggest taking the option to boot Linux from a floppy disk
rather than use Grub or Lilo. This will leave your XP bootloader intact and
when you need to reinstall Linux, it will not affect XP and reinstalling XP
will not affect Linux.
BTW Carey's reply to you was quite proper for your questions. This is after
all a Microsoft XP newsgroup and you were asking for opinions and technical
questions about Linux.
