HOW TO USE GPO TO INSTALL PATCHES ON ALL WORKSTATIONS

Sarah G.

Hi,

I'm new to group policy, but would like to use it to deploy the patches on
all the workstations. The patches are usually executable file, how can I do
to make them to .msi and have gpo run it ?

Appreciate any helps.

You need to convert .exe files to .msi packages first.
Go to \VALUEADD\3RDPARTY\MGMT\WINSTLE directory in your
Win2K CD, install it on your machine and create your
own .msi packets from .exe files...

Hi Erkan,

Thank you for your reply, I will do it.

Hi,
I created a package (windows 2000 sp3) update.msi under computer
configuration of group policy for OU1, this OU1 only has 1 user (myself for
testing), but when I logged in the computer, I saw applying software
installation settings...., but once I'm in the computer, I don't see any
installation progressing, nothing happening. I don't understand if this
policy applys to my login name or to the computer I log in. What if I log in
several computers, what would happen?

Please help.

Never mind, I figured out. I should add those computers to this OU instead
of the users, and the computer need to reboot to have the software
installed.
Thanks
Sarah
