How to upgrade from XP Home (sp1) to XP Professional

Can anybody tell me how to upgrade from XP Home Edition
(sp1) to XP Professional ? what do I need and the steps
to do the upgrade. Thanks in advance.

1. Purchase XP Pro Full retail version or upgrade version (NOT OEM version)
2. Insert disk in drive
3. When it auto starts, select upgrade
4. Follow wizard until complete

Yes - but you need to reinstall SP1 after if it's a non-SP1 CD.

You need an XP Pro Upgrade CD. As you have SP1 installed, I understand
this must be a CD that includes SP1, but any bought now will have that
(the actual CD will have 'With Service Pack 1' on it). If it does not
you may need to uninstall SP1 before being able to upgrade with it.

Then you run it from the existing system, take Install, continue with
Upgrade.

First be sure that you *need* one of the extra facilities in Pro only;
don't do it just because it sounds good. See

for the list of things that are in Pro only. In addition Pro will
support ten simultaneous connections in a network - Home only five

If you see no need for any of these Pro only matters, save money and
stick to Home

Yes, you can upgrade XP Home to Professional. There is no special
upgrade version just for this, but the regular XP Professional
Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't say so on the box).

But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home
and Professional are identical except that Professional includes
a few features (mostly related to security and networking)
missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use
these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.
