How To Unlink Recycle Bins on Different Drives

F

I use Win2K Pro on a stand-alone computer. I have two
partitions on my internal drive and I have one external
hard drive. Recently, all of my Recycle Bins have become
linked and they function as one. If I delete something
from one drive the file shows in all the Recycle Bins -
even in the external hard drive.

I have configured the recycle bins indepently and all have
different capacities. I recently made two changes to my
system and I wonder if either has caused this problem. I
installed Microsoft's SP4 service pack, and I installed
Symantec's Norton SystemWorks 2000 Professional - although
I did not install Norton's "UnErase" feature.

Do you still have your recycle bin set to allow you to configure each drive
separately?

It is normal to see the files from different drives in one recycle bin,
because you only have one. You should see that the original locations are
reflected properly.

And if you're looking in \RECYCLER\[sid], it's normal to see the same files
on all the drives too. They aren't really there though. If you browse to
C:\RECYCLER\[sid] at the command prompt and list the files, and then do the
same thing in D:\, you'll see that the files really aren't in both places.
