how to stop popups

popups gone mad!

I only receive annoying pop ups in internet explorer, such
as zestyfind, about blank etc.. not in other browsers such
as netscape. but they still come thru at start up!! they
are making me crazy. i'll turn on the computer and have 5
windows pop up. how do i stop them. i have nortons virus
and firewall, do i need something else or are my settings
wrong?
also, what is this runtime error?? is this a true error
message or is it an advertisement (popup) pleae help!!

Install Ad-Aware from Lavasoft Software, keep it updated. Also install
Google toolbar with popup blocker.

Get this wickedly good free tool that stops all popups, except the ones you
initiate (like when a clickable link is coded to create a new window).
Wonderfully compact, it is just a new .dll helper object for IE. No list of
advertisers to be updated is required. (I'm not a shill, just a satisfied
user.)
