How to share all folders and subfolders over an xp network

I have a home network set up with windows xp. I have set up my hard
drive on one computer so that the entire drive should be shared over
the network. However, when I try to access some documents on that
drive from another computer, I get denied access. After poking around
a little, I discovered that even though I had set the drive to be
shared, most subfolders were not shared and that I had to set up each
subfolder individually. Obviously, this is a pretty inefficient way to
do this. Can someone tell me how to set things up so that the entire
drive, including all subfolders, can be shared? Thanks!

When I go to Sharing and Security, there are three check boxes:
-- Local sharing (box greyed out)
-- Network sharing (both checked)

There is no option for advanced settings.

Do you have XP Home? Home does not allow for advanced sharing. If one or
more of the computers is XP Pro:

a. If you need Pro's ability to set fine-grained permissions, turn off
Simple File Sharing (Folder Options>View tab) and create identical user
accounts/passwords on all computers.

b. If you don't care about using Pro's advanced features, leave the
Simple File Sharing enabled.

Simple File Sharing means that Guest (network) is enabled. This means
that anyone without a user account on the target system can use its
resources. This is a security hole but only you can decide if it
matters in your situation.

Then create shares as desired. XP Home does not permit sharing of users'
home directories (My Documents) or Program Files, but you can share
folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the
Shared Documents folder.

My problem is not that I can't share, it's that I want to share the
entire drive but apparently I only have the ability to share specific
folders that I choose (a very tedious task when there are hundreds of
folders to do this to) instead of sharing them all with only one
action.

Thanks.

That is correct. As I said in my last post, this is a limitation of XP
Home and a better choice with Home is to put the files you wish to
share in the Shared Files folder. Otherwise upgrade to XP Pro.

Yes, but you have Home clients which only authenticate as Guest. Either
create the identical user accounts or disable Simple Sharing on Pro and
password-protect the folder(s) you don't want to share by zipping or
with third-party software.
