How to save setting in Win2000?

I will be upgrading my motherboard soon and have been told that I may have to reload
my OS because of significant hardware changes. I need to be able to save all my
settings so it doesn't take me hours and hours to get things running like they are
now. I will be doing a fresh install of course and want to make sure I don't
transfer any worms or viruses over to the new install. I'm using AVG 7 Pro and
Symantec Corporate Edition anti virus programs which seem to work well, but you never
know. I would also like to know how to save settings from other programs besides
Windows. I don't mind installing these programs again as that really doesn't take
long. But getting the options settings just right can take a very long time.

You might not have to reinstall everything afresh. Maybe you could
perform an in-place upgrade: replace the motherboard, boot from the
Windows 2000 CD.

You could try deleting every device in Device Manager
(saving your mouse for last) and then shutdown the
machine. Replace the motherboard and then every device
will find itself again, setting up the proper system
resources. As far as saving settings, some programs
use .ini files and some use direct registry changes for
options. I would suggest contacting the manufacturer of
your programs for more advice regarding that issue.

Best of Luck!
