Well, you can't. Windows is forever writing temporary files which it can't
do to a CD-ROM.

And even if you could (CDROM-RW?), the access time would kill you; CD-ROMs
have an access time about 500 times slower than a hard disk.

Please refrain from asking this question repeatedly. All you need to do
is stick with your origianl thread. In case you missed my reply, here it
is again:

Your subject line contains a different idea than the body of your post.

Are you trying to reinstall your operating system? If so, look at these
links:

To perform a repair install (which should keep all your data and
settings intact):

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

To perform a clean install (which wipes the slate clean, so to speak):

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

Note that you would not be "run[ning} windows xp from a CD-ROM." Rather
you will be running the *setup program* that is on the installtion CD.
That means you will be configuring your PC to boot off your CD-ROM drive
instead of the usual hard drive. See:

Answered in another newsgroup. Please do not send the same message
separately to more than one newsgroup (called multiposting). Doing so
just fragments the thread, so someone who answers in one newsgroup
doesn't get to see answers from others in another newsgroup. And for
those who read all the newsgroups the message is multiposted to, they
see the message multiple times instead of once (they would see it only
once if you correctly crossposted instead). This wastes everyone's
time, and gets you poorer help than you should get.

If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup, please
do so by crossposting (but only to a *few* related newsgroups).

Please see "Multiposting vs Crossposting" at
