How to reset default search pages after installing ISP DSL software

P

Pieter

I installed my Verison DSL software as instructed by the activation sheet.

As a result my IE window title was changed to include the text Verison, this
is not too bad.

But, my default search is now broken.
In the past I could type "microsoft" in the address bar, and IE would
eventually open www.microsoft.com, or it would show the MSN search page, now
I get this http:///? microsoft

I tried the following MS support KB's without success:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;171853
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303210
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;179402
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;182291

I also installed the google companion bar in the hopes that the google
install would fix it, but it still happens.

How do I revert my IE to default behavior?

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
