How to rename Junk E-mail Folder?

I re-used a 2000 .pst file and 2003 created a Junk E-mail1 folder. I have
deleted the Junk E-mail folder and want to rename the Junk E-mail1 folder.
How can I do that? (The rename command is grayed out and the properties
dialogue will not allow a name change.)

Thank you!

I believe you can do it with code and possibly the old Exchange client but I
advise against both.

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to try modifying code. It seems as
though there are many posts concerning this issue since many people are at
least starting with their old .pst file. Since Outlook is working fine I'm
going to live with the file name though I can't understand why renaming it
would be a problem.

Thanks again.

Try starting Outlook with the /resetfoldernames switch.

I have the same problem!

Hello guys,

I read through this thread and have a similar problem!
In fact I changed at one point from a french to an english version of outlook 2003. Now the Junk E-mail folder still has the french name and I would like to rename it to "Junk E-mail". I tried to follow your instructions but I am "novice" in more complicated stuff! If someone explaine it easily I will be able to get it done!

You would all be a great help!

Thanks a lot

It is easier than you think. Presumptions are Office 2003 (Office 11), and the existence of the File " Junk e-Mail1". This will reset the "Junk e-Mail1" file name to "Junk e-Mail". Keep in mind anything that refers to "Junk e-Mail1" file will need to be changed to "Junk e-Mail" (such as rules).
Get to the command prompt via Start, Accessories, Command Prompt.
At the end of the existing line, Enter the following, including the double quotes:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe." /ResetFolderNames
Press enter and you are done. There is some more interesting information on the use of command line switches as they apply to Outlook 2003 (11) at:

This worked for me, although there is an extra period in the file reference. I also had to modify it slightly to reference the right folders, as I am using Office 2010. Here is exactly what I typed to get it to work.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\Outlook.exe"/ResetFolderNames

Glad to find an answer to this - it had been driving me CRAZY for months!
