how to reinstall SP 2 ?

I have XP SP2, and I'm getting an error 1918 when trying to reinstall
Office (ODBC drivers not present--another piece of s/w must have
screwed up the registry settings), and a KB article says these drivers
are present on SP2 and to install SP2. However, windowsupdate won't
install SP2 again because it's already installed, and I don't find it
on the Add/Remove software list (SP2 was preinstalled on my computer).
What to do?

If SP2 was pre-installed on your PC, you will not be able to re-install SP2.
SP2 is "merged" inot your XP setup and install CD.

Hmmm. Bad news. Is there any way to fix problems like these, or do you
have to reinstall XP completely? Error 1918 seems to indicate that the
ODBC drivers are misconfigured, eg wrong registry entries. The KB
article suggests that I can use the MDAC download to cure this, but I
d/l it, ran it, and it generated an error ("not for this operating
system" or something like it).
