How to Recover when getting a STOP: C0000135 error

Michael Artmore

Hi,

I'm getting an error when booting Windows 2000 Professional. I'm getting a
stop error and the OS is not booting up. I have tried booting up in safe
mode but it does the same thing. The error is as follows:

stop: c0000135 {Unable to locate DLL} The dynamic linklibrary winsrv could
not be found in the specified path Default Load Path

Does anyone have any suggetions on how I might recover from this? The
problem occurred while I was installing the critical updates from
Microsoft's Website regarding the blaster worm. The PC rebooted during the
install of service pack 4 which then resulted in the described error
occurring.

Thanks,
Michael

Try safe mode with command prompt.

If that doesn't work, use your win2k cd to boot, and navigate through the
menus to a recovery console.

In either case, once there, type "sfc /scannow" this will attempt to
replace missing or corrupted system files from the win2k CD.

Once you get a normally bootable OS, go to the add/remove folder, and
attempt to uninstall the update.
Then reinstall it.

If this still doesn't work, post again, and we'll discuss the more drastic
measures, like reinstalling the OS.
