how to recover erased files

Hello!
I made a bad mistake. From a laptop on my home network
I erased all 'My Document' files on my main desktop,
thinking I was erasing those files on the laptop. Is
there a way to recover those lost files? I bought Norton's
System works but found out it only recovers if you had it
installed in the first place.
please help!

Have you looked in the Recycle Bin or tried the System Restore feature on
that computer?

If this does not work, here are links to some file recovery programs. It is
critical that the affected system is used as little as possible until the
recovery program is used. Using the system can overwrite the area of the
hard drive where the deleted files are located and make recovery virtually
impossible.

If you deleted the files from your Recycle Bin and then defragmented your
hard disk, you can kiss your files goodbye.

Unfortunately, this probably killed any chance you might have had to recover
the files. In the links I gave you some of those programs are free. You
might want to get one of these and give it a shot anyway just on the off
chance that some files are still there.

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded ''file saver''
and was able to recover many files. Now it's a
major task to sort through them all.
