I have an external drive plug into fire-wire port, after disconnect it using
"safely remove hardware", is there a way to reconnect it from desktop
without having to power down/up the drive?

You mean turn off/on the external hard drive? To remount it, simply plug the
drive into the desktop's firewire port again. If I've misunderstood your
question, please clarify your situation, the problem, and what you're
really trying to do.

It sounds like he wants to leave the device plugged in and power it on and
off using "safely remove"

Thanks, that does it. I didn't know fire-wire are hot plug-able.

Glad you have some insight on hot-plugging firewire.

Don't understand why one would want to in normal everyday conditions.
Unless of course your external firewire enclosure has no on/off switch.
And, you're not up to the job for installing a remote power switching
station for your external hardware which provides or removes AC power by
independent manual switches.
