how to play, stop and pause music during a presentation?

I have followed the Assistant Help but it is not allowing me to pause or
stop....any help? Can I add in a console of some sort?

These instructions are for PowerPoint 2002 and 2003:

1. Select your sound icon and choose Slide Show | Custom Animation. This
will activate the Custom Animation task pane.

2. Check if you have any Sound Actions (Play, Pause, Stop) in the pane.

3. To add these actions, choose Add Effect | Sound Actions | Play / Pause /
Stop as required.
