How To Move Windows Address Book DB?

P

(PeteCresswell)

I've Googled, but no joy.

I thought I'd doped out that it is a .WAB file - but a search of
C: does not find anything .WAB.

Does anybody know where this thing is and/or how to move it?

I just want to get it off of my System drive.

Failing that, at least point my backup utility at it...

In WinXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden.
To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files
and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or
in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

After that, you can find the location in the Address Book in OE, or just
do a search for: *.wab & ~wa

The account's file location for its .wab file is defined in the registry
under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4\Wab File Name

Configure Windows Explorer to show hidden files.

If you want to move the file, you'll also have to change the registry
entry so the app that wants to find it can see its path in the registry.

No matter where it is located, and assuming you are using it, you should
always be including the .wab file in your backups, not just rely on it
continuing to exist in another drive (whether its partition is on the
same or different hard disk).
