How to make menus appear when there are NO toolbars showing on sc.

Sometimes when I open a second document with Word, the second document opens
with absolutely NO toolbars. How do I get the menus to appear when I have NO
toolbars whatsoever. I have been having this problem for quite some time.
The only way to get toolbars for me in this case is to close everything, and
open the document I want to edit by itself--and then I get the menus. It is
very irritating, because I often times have more than one document open. Any
suggestions?
