How to make a cross post?

Hi,

What do I need to type in the advanced options of the New Question dialog of
this newsgroup to cross-post, say to VB.Net General Discussion. I have
attempted a few different options, but none succedded.

They ask to "use full USENET designation" - but I cannot figure out what it
is.

I am not familiar with "Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000", which is
what your headers say that you are using. Personally, I currently use
Forte Agent, and other people use a wide variety of newsreader
software.

In general, though, the way to post to more than one newsgroup at once
is to include all the names of crossposted groups on the "Newsgroups:"
line, separated by commas, for instance
"microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.csharp,microsoft.public.dotnet.csharp.general".
That being said, crossposting should only be done if a post is very
much on topic in *all* the newsgroups chosen, and even then some
people may complain somewhat.

Ben has answered about the how. However because of the content in the two
previous messages.

You will seldom see complaints from regulars in the dotNet newsgroups about
well done crossposting.

A question about the C# language used in a webapplication related to
DataBase problems can good be sent crossposted to 3 newsgroups. (If it
becomes more it will often seen as spam)

However most of us hate multiposting, which is sending three posts with the
same question to more newsgroups using by instance Outlook Express, a
newsreader which perfectly supports crossposting.

The questions I ask usually relate to .Net or ASP.Net and for me it does not
really matter whether it will be in C# or VB. I just use these two groups to
find my answers. In my IE it seems like these groups are the closest to my
questions either in Windows.Forms or ASP.Net.
Or if I am wrong, can you suggest the more appropriate ones?

It appears that you are using the Microsoft web interface that they provide
for the microsoft.* newsgroups. That is, the pages at
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/. I believe it may not be
possible to properly cross-post using that interface. I've used their web
site to post to some newsgroups now and then, and I don't recall seeing
anything that would allow a single message to be cross-posted correctly to
multiple newsgroups.

So, if you want to cross-post correctly, you'll have to use a full-blown
newsreader. Some popular ones include Forte Agent, 40tude, and Outlook
Express. I can't recall for sure if the Firefox messaging client
Thunderbird supports newsgroups, but I think it does. All but Agent are
free of charge for personal use, and Forte does have a limited-functionality
version of Agent called Free Agent that is also free of charge.

The questions I ask usually relate to .Net or ASP.Net and for me it does

really matter whether it will be in C# or VB. I just use these two groups
to

IMHO, just following the naming of the newsgroups it seems to me that this
newsgroup is most appropriate for questions directly relating to the use of
C#, while the microsoft.public.dotnet.framework newsgroup would be most
appropriate for questions relating to the actual use of .NET. However, I've
noticed that most questions in here aren't about C# at all, and no one seems
to be upset about it, so I'd say cross-posting to two newsgroups where one
is specific to the language you're using and the other is specific to the
API you're using would likely be just fine.
