How to get Windows Desktop Search flyout window to appear?

Using XP SP3. (Also using Windows Desktop Search, but can't say what
version, because I can't find an "About" menu choice anyplace - where is it?)

I have a number of PCs here at home, and on most of these, when I enter
something in the WDS taskbar search argument field, a "flyout" appears that
shows intermediate results as the search argument is typed. On one of my
systems, however, the only thing that shows is a kind of minimized version of
the flyout - a bar with a Windows logo, Desktop and Web buttons, and an "X"
button. It never expands.

How can I get the flyout to work as it does on other systems here?

Thanks.

To find full name of the OS, go to Start/Run.
Enter cmd
Enter winver

Can't help about the flyout.
