I used a lot of time finding this so I thought I would put it out.

Here is how to embed the windows media object with PowerPoint 2007.

Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007
1. In Normal view in PowerPoint, display the slide on which you want
to play the animation.
2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click PowerPoint
Options.
3. Click Popular, click to select the Show Developer tab in the Ribbon
check box under Top options for working with PowerPoint, and then
click OK.
4. On the Developer tab, click More Controls in the Controls group.
5. In the list of controls, click Windows Media Player, click OK, and
then drag on the slide to draw the control.
6. Resize the control by dragging the sizing handles.
7. Right-click the Windows Media Player object, and then click
Properties.
8. On the Alphabetic tab, click the URL property.
9. In the value column, type the full drive path. Make sure that you
include the file name or the URL that links to the movie file that you
want to play.

Note: To embed YouTube object: After publishing the html pages, and
loading into a browser, view the slide with the windows media player
object tag using view source and substitute the object tag for a
YouTube movie that YouTube readily provides where the windows media
object is located.
This is flash player object, but it seems to work just fine also.

You might also want to know that you can view U tube in powerpoint by adding
a shockwave flash object and setting the url (in properties > custom) to that
of the U tube video. You will need to change the format a little. You will
also need to have a net connection live!

REMOVE the bit that says watch?
CHANGE = to /

eg
BECOMES

I assume that Michael Koener is with MS. If he is, then here is my
congratulatory message. I have used many applications over the last
12 years but find PowerPoint the best of all of them for creating my
online continuing education courses for Code Changes at
electrician2.com. PowerPoint puts all the power in one application.
At one time I used 5 applications to do the same tasks and still did
not get as good a product. Now my time is cut by 75 percent and I
create a better product using PowerPoint.
If I were to make any suggestions it would be to allow links to be
placed in the left menu so that pages other than slides can be opened
in the slide frame. I do this manually to get my tests to open and it
works just fine.
