How to disable 'Update' Warning

C

Camel

Hi:
I did 'update' by using SP 2 CD, however the computer became very slow,
then I had no choice but to remove most of 'Update,' just leaving 'Beta' and
few of 'Security'.

However, everytime the machine starts up, here comes, ... balloon at the
right corner of the bottom, giving 'warning,' need to update.

My question is; How to disable, 'Update' Warning at the start of
Internet Explorer?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Try this:
Go to My Computer and on the screen that comes up on the left of the
screen is System Tasks...click on System Information and on the next
screen click Automatic Updates....check to turn this OFF ...Save and
restart your computer.
Good Luck.

You can also get the same screen by Right Clicking My Computer and Click

How much RAM memory?Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task
Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit
Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

What is your CPU processor speed? Right click on your My
Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get
this information and the amount of RAM memory.

How large is your hard disk and how much free disk space? In
Windows Explorer right click on your C drive and select
Properties.

Hope this helps.

Camel, the time is rapidly approaching when you must have SP2 installed to
get any security updates. I'd recommend resolving your post-SP2 problems
very soon.

Hi:
My computer is as follow:
(1) Win XP Home Edition
(2) HP Pavollion 533w
(3) Processor: 2.00 gigahertx Intel Celeron
(4) 61.47 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capaciy
(5) 510 Megabytes
(6) local user accounts: Owner (and Guest) most of time,
there is NO problem, even three different people using.
(7) local system accounts: Administrator never
Guest never
HelpAssistant never
SUPPORT 388945AoNEVER
SUPPORT _FDDFA904 NEVER

In the past when I installed SP 1, there had a problem 'very slow,'
then I didn't surprise this to happen. However, SP 2 installation went so
smooth that I thought this time, SP 2 was OK. But, same thing happened.
No difference from SP 1 installation.

Later when I tried to log on, I needed to wait about five minutes to get
I.E., thus
I had no choice but removed most of SP 2.

Hopefully, MS fixes this problem soon.

After installing SP2 you need to cleanup!
http://aumha.org/win5/a/sp2faq.htm

How did you remove most of SP2? Normally you would
either remove all or none? Please describe the process.

You should install SP2 and then tackle any issues that arise.
Uninstalling is not the best way forward.

Hi:
I removed SP 2 by using Add/Remove.
However, I still have 'Beta' and other 'Security,' because
before SP 2 arrived, I installed those by using 'Downloading.'

When I went to Add/Remove, ... surely SP 2(everything) was gone.

Before SP 2, I installed 'SystemWorks'(Norton), SpySweeper,
WinCleaner along with 'Beta' and others(malicious).

I don't have a good knowledge as to 'defense' against professional type
of 'virus.' However, when the computer started/restarted after SP 2,
I.E. along with 'Dial-up' didn't come up. Also, everything getting VERY slow
that frightened me, ... losing everything in the computer, ... 'Crash."

note) Strangely, one of three HP computers(I love HP brand) works like
a charm after SP 2. Only one HP getting along with SP 2. Rest has no
cooperation with SP 2 whatsoever. All three has EXACT same programs
and security programs.

Any answer would be grateful on this discripancy.

1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot.

2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis
log to an appropriate forum.

Hi: PA Bear:
Thanks for the time you spent SO much offering the sites along with a GOOD
knowledge/information.

However, currently I've been changing from 'Dial-Up' to 'DSL,'
and DSL sent a 'wrong/bad' Modem, then they said another 'good'
modem will be shipped within few days.

So, now .... rather than concentration on 'Update,' I need to concentrate
MORE for 'Internet' Connection/Service. Without I.E., SP 2 doesn't
mean anything.

In the meantime, I say 'thanks' to you spending time to write SO many sites
that hopefully giving a good resolution on this problem.

When DSL starts running smooth, I plan to work on SP 2/Update.

BTW, For a wrong/bad modem, I spent whole morning calling/asking its
provider.
Then, it's very nice to read your thorough instruction/sites. thanks,

Thanks,
Good day!
