How to Disable MSN Messenger

How to disable MSN Messenger; I find this most annoying
as my computer automatically logs me in; I really don't
have time to spend on chat but do not wish to offend my
friends who do contact me. I make a point of always
signing out when I start up computer, but would prefer a
more permanent solution, such as disabling messenger.
Help; thanks...ps

Dear reader,
You need to go to Messenger and go to Tools, and then on
your "Preferences" you need to make sure that your box
which says "start Messenger on Windows Start" is not
checked. OK?
