How to Contact Symantec?

Too All:

So after my first encounter with CWS, I submitted to Symantec the trojan
that NAV REPEATED FAILED to detect (all 6 of them) but an on-line scanning
service found immediately (all 6 of them). The response that I got from
Symantec says:

"Some or all of the files have been detected as 'expanded threats'. For
Symantec products that support expanded threats, the currently published
LiveUpdate definitions (or attached definition file) are capable of
detecting these threats. For more information on expanded threats, please
visit

Should you have any questions about your submission, please contact
our regional technical support from the Symantec website
(http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/)
and give them the tracking number in the subject of this message."

From the Symantec website, there appears NOT to be an easy way to tell
Symantec by email that NAV REPEATED FAILED to detect the trojan even with
the LATEST Live Update definitions.

Soo..., how does one contact Symantec and tell that their definition files
are repeatedly missing this trojan!

Thanks,

Steve

Just curious Steve. What version are you using, 2002/2003/2004. Norton has
stopped supporting 2002 I believe. When I purchased NAV 2004 it found stuff
on my PC that I didn't know I had.

Dannie:

I am running 2002. So you say that upgrading to 2004 resulted in NAV in
finding more viruses? What are the differences in NAV 2004 v. 2002 that
results in finding more viruses?

I have heard that NAV 2004 has become more "bloatware like" and really uses
up more system resources than 2002. What has been your experience with
this? What Win OS and how much memory are you using?

Thanks,

Steve

I'm not Dannie, but I can tell you that 2004 has detection for what they
call "expanded threats" which aren't traditional viruses but are more like
spyware/adware. When it finds them, it lists them as such. But it doesn't do
a very good job of removing them.

But every time Norton detects something like that, either ad-aware or spybot
will remove it., or you can hunt it down and kill it manually.

Because it is not something that they need to detect. They do offer
detection for these non-threatening hijackers in their newer versions, as
they tried to explain to you.

It is a type of trojan that they need not be bothered with, as it is just
an annoyance. Many AV vendors are starting to get into the trojan
detection business - and I suppose they will all start detecting adware
and spyware (cookies and such nonsense) too, but expecting them
to do it now is somewhat premature.

Dannie:

I too am using a Dell 8200 running WinXP SP1. To find how much memory you
have do:

Right click on "My Computer" -> Left Click on "Properties"

The amount of RAM will be at the bottom right.

So how much RAM to you have?

Given the age of the 8200 series, did you originally have NAV 2002 and
upgrade to 2004 and if so, then did Symantec provide any deals?

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks Steve. I have 256MB and I purchased NSW 2004 and it came with AV
2004. I deleted the NAV 2002.
