How to Configure VPN Clients for Network Browsing????

K

Kenny Bullock

Hello all;

I am able to successfully VPN into our company's network; however, I am
unable to map any network drives. My companies network is not listed under
My Network Places, however, I can ping server's IP addresses, but I cannot
Ping by server name. We're using Windows XP machines on a Windows 2000
server network.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I have to install a WINS server?

Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Go to network resources by entering the UNC path, or by mapping a drive
letter.

For instance,

Start | Run.
enter the UNC:
\\myserver\myshare

I don't think networks are typically browsable when connecting via VPN. If
you want to map a drive letter to MyShare on MyServer, you have to enter the
UNC yourself; you can't browse to it.

No not WINS (unless you have Win9x clients), you need a Win2k DNS Primary
Zone for YOUR network that can be accessed by the VPN clients. Not to be
confused with Internet/ISP DNS.
