how to communicate outlook 2003 with exchange server

Hi All,

i am using outlook 2003. can outlook calendar get the data from database.
i have msde an application whaich is based on database, i want to use that data in the outlook calendar. so that the date which is being used in database could become bold in outlook calendar and description could also come .

can it be done by using exchange server or some API which could communicate to outlook.
